Georgia Teacher of the Year to Speak at ABAC
October 13
TIFTON
– The Student Professional Association of Georgia Educators at
Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College will welcome Moultrie native and 2010 Georgia
Teacher of the Year Gwen Desselle as a guest speaker on Oct. 13.
Desselle will speak in Bowen
Hall, Room 100, at 4 p.m. Refreshments will be served, and this event is open
to all who would like to attend.
Desselle
is a social studies teacher with 32 years of teaching experience. She has spent
most of her career in education at Colquitt County High School.
She received her undergraduate
and master’s degrees from Valdosta State University. She began her teaching
career at Valdosta High School in 1977 and moved to Colquitt County High School
in 1981.
As Georgia Teacher of the Year, she
will spend next school year traveling around the state speaking to the public
about the teaching profession and conducting workshops and programs for
educators. She will also serve as an advocate for public education and the
teaching profession in Georgia.
She will compete for 2010
National Teacher of the Year and will serve as an advisor to Superintendent Kathy
Cox and the Georgia Department of Education.
