Beaudin Brothers Representing ABAC
in Las Vegas
TIFTON
– Kevin and Keith Beaudin are taking their golf game to the
desert of Las Vegas thanks to Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College alumnus Boo
Weekley.
The Beaudin brothers won a paid trip to the
eighth annual National Collegiate Golf Championship in Las Vegas by shooting
five under par and beating eight other teams at the local qualifying event
hosted by ABAC at the college’s Forest Lakes Golf Course.
Weekley, an ABAC student in
1992-93, is a member of the Professional Golfers Association (PGA) who was
selected for the United States Ryder Cup Team last year. He designated $30,000 to ABAC through
the Play Golf America University as a result of his Ryder Cup selection.
As
a part of the designation, ABAC students had the opportunity to test their golf
skills at the campus expo and then Forest Lakes was the location for one of 47
qualifying tournaments for the National Collegiate Golf Championship.
In
order to enter the two-man scramble qualifying tournament, the participants had
to be ABAC students. The events were sponsored by the PGA and Collegiate Golf
Alliance (CGA). K.G. Bragg, junior Turfgrass and Golf course management major
from Peachtree City, served as the intern for the CGA and coordinated both
events. Bragg is also a member of the
ABAC golf team.
The
national tournament will take place at the Silverstone Golf Course in Nevada
Nov. 6-8. The Beaudin brothers have
decided to purchase an extra night at the Imperial Palace on the Las Vegas
strip to lengthen their stay.
“We
are honored and excited to represent ABAC and Boo Weekley in this tournament,”
Kevin said. “We have contacted Boo, and he is sending us some shirts to wear in
the tournament.”
“We
entered the tournament because of the trip to Las Vegas,” Keith said. “We have
been planning a trip out there, and it is just ironic we won and now we get to
go for free.”
The brothers, Kevin, a freshman, and Keith, a
sophomore, are both Turfgrass and Golf Course Management majors from
Manchester. Keith played golf during high school at Manchester High. There are
the sons of Robin and Kevin Beaudin.
“We chose ABAC because of the great Turf
program and the ability to get a bachelor’s degree from such a well known
school,” Keith said.
Georgia Institute of Technology and Georgia
State University are also sending teams to compete against 44 other teams. The
winning team gets a great prize package including an automatic invitation and
paid trip to defend its title in the 2010 tournament.
