LAYTON TO REPRESENT ABAC AT TURFGRASS SEMINAR
TIFTON – Forest Lakes
Golf Course Superintendent John Layton will be attending the 2009 Future Turf
Managers Seminar on May 18 – 21 in Charlotte, N.C., on behalf of the turf program at Abraham Baldwin
Agricultural College.
With the recommendation of Dr Eddie Seagle,
Professor of Agriculture and Environmental Horticulture at ABAC, the Jacobsen
Division of Textron selected Layton
for the all expenses paid seminar.
“Dr. Seagle forwarded me the e-mail, and I thought
it was a good opportunity to pass what I learn on to the students,” Layton said. “I am always ready to learn. I can give these
new skills to the turf students of ABAC.”
The focus of the seminar is turf equipment, and Layton is excited to see
what Jacobsen has in store with the new products.
“I will get to not only see all the new products
but learn how to use them, as well,” Layton
said. “I hope this information will help
further the education of all the students within the turf program.”
Seagle is an alumnus of the program and will be a
guest speaker at the program this year.
He said the program started in Racine,
Wis., over 40 years ago. ABAC has had 20 students participate in the
seminar since 1978.
Layton
attended both undergraduate and graduate school at Mississippi State
University" might be
a better way to word the sentence since I am still waiting on the graduate
degree.
He has served as Superintendent of the Forest
Lakes Golf Course since June, 2008.
Forest Lakes is owned by the ABAC Foundation and
operated by the college. The course is
open from 8 a.m. – sundown seven days a week. Discounts are available for ABAC
students, faculty, and staff and senior citizens. For more information, contact
Forest Lakes at (229) 382-7626.
