SEVENTEEN GRADUATE FROM POLICE ACADEMY AT ABAC

TIFTON—Seventeen individuals from the South Georgia area recently received certificates at graduation exercises for the 231st session of the Georgia Public Safety Training Center (GPSTC) Regional Police Academy at Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College.

Academy Director Marty Smith said the Overall Achievement award for the session was awarded to Danny J. McLendon of the Albany Police Department. McLendon also received second place in Academics and served as president of the session. First place in Academics was awarded to Peter C. Spahn of the Southwest Georgia Regional Airport in Albany. First place in Firearms was received by Robert F. Davis of the Lowndes County Sheriff’s Office.  Eric F. Strom of the Albany Police Department received second place in Firearms.

Other graduates included Christopher J. Hutcherson, Samantha A. Jordan, and Jessica W. Lumpkin of the Albany Police Department; Carroll L. Roberts of the Cook County Sheriff’s Office; Michael W. Mahoney of the Lowndes County Sheriff’s Office; Michael L. Purvis and Kizzie R. Richard of the Sylvester Police Department; Newton S. Key, II, Robert D. Leatherberry, Jeremy N. Nelms, Daniel A. North, and Lester D. Winningham of the Valdosta Police Department; and Jeffrey J. Nolan of Waycross Police Department.

GPSTC Regional Police Academy regularly holds multi-week intensive training sessions designed to acquaint officers with state-of-the-art law enforcement techniques. The Academy operates in cooperation with the Division of Social Science at ABAC.
