Kim Jacobs

JACOBS WILL PURSUE EARLY CHILDHOOD EDUCATION DEGREE AT ABAC

TIFTON—Kim Jacobs will receive her associate degree in early childhood education this summer from Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College. But the Bainbridge native isn’t ready to say good-bye to ABAC just yet.

Jacobs is going to stay on the Tifton campus of ABAC and earn her bachelor’s degree in early childhood education through a program that is partnered between ABAC and Georgia Southwestern State University.

“I like the atmosphere and the student-to-instructor ratio,” Jacobs said.  “It’s a small campus that offers big opportunities.”

Another trait of ABAC that cemented Jacobs’ decision to stay is that the faculty and staff at ABAC know students by name and are willing to go the extra mile to help.

“While at ABAC I have grown to be a very ambitious, goal oriented woman, who strives for success,” Jacobs said.  “ABAC has given me the strength to strive for the goals I would like to achieve in life.”

Her choice to pursue a career in education came after finishing an apprenticeship in the school system.

“After working in the apprenticeship, it just seemed to fit. I love working with kids and I want to be able to witness a child’s weaknesses turn into strengths,” said Jacobs.

Jacobs has a busy extracurricular schedule when she’s not hitting the books. She has served as an ABAC Ambassador, is a member of the Student Professional Association of Georgia Educators, is active in leadership learning communities, and serves as an orientation leader for the college’s registration days.

In her free time she likes to hang out with her friends and help out with other ABAC clubs and organizations. She is the recipient of a number of scholarships including the GAE Scholarship, the Decatur County Retired Teachers Scholarship, and an NAACP scholarship.

When she attains her bachelor’s degree in early childhood education, she plans to teach for a year before starting on her master’s degree.

“I want to get my feet wet and gain the experience needed to be a well-rounded educator,” said Jacobs. “Ideally, my target grade levels would be fourth and fifth grades, and I would love to stick near the coast, teaching somewhere in the Savannah area.”

The deadline for applications for the fall term at ABAC is Aug. 1.  Fall semester classes begin Aug. 17.
