ABAC Making Plans
For Additional Budget Reductions
TIFTON—Plans for
additional reductions to an already strained 2009-10 budget are now being made
by Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College President David Bridges.
Bridges told the ABAC faculty and staff this week that he
has been asked to prepare a plan to cover additional budget cuts of four, six,
and eight per cent.
“We had approximately $1.9 million cut from last year’s
budget which carried over to this year’s budget,” Bridges said.
Bridges said the college absorbed the reduction by
restricting travel, reducing operating expenses, not filling vacant positions,
deferring maintenance and equipment purchases, and implementing an energy
conservation plan.
“It’s a real balancing act,” Bridges said. “We
will continue to implement cost-cutting measures, and we will be very
conservative in filling positions. On the revenue side, we are working
very hard recruiting and enrolling students for the fall semester.”
Admissions applications continue to be accepted at ABAC for
the fall semester, which begins on Aug. 17.
