BALDWIN PLAYERS AUDITIONS SET FOR JAN. 20-21 AT ABAC

TIFTON—Auditions for the Baldwin Players improvisational comedy troupe at Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College will be held at 7 p.m. on Jan. 20-21 in Conger Hall 319 on the ABAC campus.

Those persons picked for the improv group will perform on March 5-7 in Conger 319.

Dr. John Galyean, director of the Baldwin Players, is an alumnus of the L.A. Connection improv troupe (Mad Movies on Nickelodeon Channel).  He said the troupe will rehearse three to four times per week in preparation for the show.  Each rehearsal will take about two hours.

“No experience is necessary,” Galyean said. “Improv takes a different set of skills than does regular stage acting.  I’m looking for smart, creative people who are seeking a means of self expression, whether they’ve been on stage before or not. The process involves learning rules to games, learning basic stage movement, and developing concentration and listening skills.

“Being funny helps, but most people who think they are funny aren’t.  I find that if improv actors concentrate on the scene they’re in, establish give and take with their scene partners, and have the discipline to apply the skills they’ve learned, magic [ i.e. funny] usually happens.”

Auditioners may be asked to tell a one minute story as if they were an animal. This audition piece is not mandatory—merely requested. Choice of animal and the story the animal tells is strictly up to the animal/auditioner.

Galyean can be contacted at jgalyean@abac.edu for further information.
