The ABAC Jazz Choir

 

 

ABAC MUSIC PROGRAM TO BE FEATURED AT CELEBRATE ABAC

 

           

TIFTON – The Jazz Band, Jazz Choir, and Chamber Singers at Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College will perform at the brand new Celebrate ABAC weekend on March 6-7.

Celebrate ABAC is the new name for the traditional ABAC homecoming weekend, which brings hundreds of alumni back to the campus. The Chamber Singers will sing Greg Gilpin’s “There Is A Season.” at the annual memorial service on March 6 at 5:30 p.m. in the Chapel of All Faiths. 

The Jazz Choir will then take center stage for the annual Golden Alumni Social and Dinner in Gressette Gym at 7 p.m.  Dr. Susan Roe directs both the Chamber Singers and the Jazz Choir.  Tickets for the dinner must be purchased in advance by calling the ABAC Advancement Office at (229) 391-4900.

            On March 7 from 9:30-10 a.m., the ABAC Jazz Band Ensemble, under the direction of Don Coates, will perform in Howard Auditorium for the annual Awards Ceremony honoring ABAC alumni.

On March 15, the ABAC Jazz Choir will perform in Orlando, Fla., at Walt Disney World at the International Stage at EPCOT Future World. This stage is the premier performance space at the park and has had several well known artists perform there, including world renowned saxophone player Kenny G.  The Jazz Choir was selected and asked to sing at EPCOT through an arduous audition process.

            The ABAC Jazz Choir will perform “Take Five”, arranged by Kirby Shaw, “Ain’t Misbehavin’”, arranged by Larry Shackley, “Come Rain or Come Shine”, arranged by Jay Althouse, “They Can’t Take that Away from Me”, arranged by Mark Hayes, “Embraceable You”, arranged by Jay Althouse, “Duke’s Place”, arranged by Russell Robinson, “Pink Panther”, arranged by Jay Althouse, and “Never, Never Land”, arranged by Mac Huff.

             Members of the Jazz Choir are Tony Adams, Josh Barber, Cameron Bell, Tori Bozeman, Shawnaa Burton, Kelly Cooksey, Sam Cosby, Brian Holland, Kody Jones, Justin Lott, Jamie Mitcham, Erlencia Mumphery, Haley Parrish, Elizabeth Powell, Savannah Rogers, Meagan Royal, Josh Salter, Ashley Shiver, Raina Stephens, Abbey Sumner, Ashley Williams, and Seth Wooten.

Andrew Davidson, ABAC instructor in piano, music appreciation, and choral accompanist, will accompany the choir on the piano. Two members of the Jazz Band, Johnathan Thomas, drummer, and Thomas Atkins, bass player, will also accompany the group.
