MR. ABAC TO BE SELECTED FEBRUARY 19

TIFTON—Eighteen men attending Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College will compete for the title of Mr. ABAC in the 18th annual competition on Feb. 19. The theme for this year’s event is “Wild, Wild West.” Sponsored, produced, and directed by the Family and Consumer Sciences Club, the event will begin at 7 p.m. in Howard Auditorium.

The cost is $4 in advance and $5 the night of the contest. Tickets can be purchased in advance from Judy Perry or Dr. Darby Sewell in the Ag Sciences building or by calling (229) 391-4790.

Contestants are sponsored by campus clubs, athletic teams, residence halls, and student media. They will compete in casual attire, formal attire, and interview categories. Contestants will also be judged on a written timed essay. The top contestant will receive a plaque and a cash prize. A contestant’s, interview, and essay award will be given. The Family and Consumer Sciences Club members will also choose “Mr. Photogenic,” “Best Eyes,” “Best Smile,” and other awards.

            Travis Kern, a faculty member in the Colquitt County High School Choral Department, will emcee the event.

            Students involved in this year’s competition include Soloman AbouHarb, a wildlife technology major from Ashburn.; Junior Chapman, an agriculture education major from Jasper; Jarrod Creasy, an agriculture education major from Statesboro; Kevin Householder, a nursing major from Naylor; Richard Irvin, a turfgrass and golf course management major from Whigham; Matthew Kiley, an agricultural engineering and technology major from Andersonville; and Alfredo Munoz, an education major from Meigs.

            Other participants include Kyle Peters, an athletic training major from Buford; Tyler Poole, an agribusiness major from Donalsonville; Ryan Reese, a political science major from Fitzgerald; Taylor Sills, an agribusiness and agricultural economics major from Eatonton; Marty Saylor, Jr., a diversified agriculture major from Axson; Stephen Saylor, an agriculture education major from Conyers; and Stephen Stokes, a turfgrass management major from Macon.

             Other contestants competing are Tavoris Wallace, a livestock production technology major from Abbeville; Casey Williams, a middle grades education and nursing major from Statenville; Paten Willis, an occupational therapy major from Tifton; and Omar Zapote, a landscape design major from Moultrie.
