STOCKBRIDGE RESIDENT TO BE HONORED AT ABAC ON MARCH 7

TIFTON—Debbie Redeker Phillips of Stockbridge will be presented with the 2009 Helen Brown Sasser Award during the annual ABAC Alumni Association awards ceremony on Celebrate ABAC weekend on March 7 at Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College.

The Helen Brown Sasser Award was formerly known as the Master Homemaker Award.  It is presented annually in recognition of alumni who have distinguished themselves by successfully balancing traditional family values with career and community service.  Support of ABAC is also taken into consideration.  The award was begun in 1959, during the administration of Helen Brown Sasser, the first female president of the ABAC Alumni Association.   The second oldest award presented by the Alumni Association, it was renamed in her memory in 1997.

The awards ceremony begins at 10 a.m. in Howard Auditorium at ABAC.  It is open to anyone who would like to attend at no charge.  Other activities of the day include a luncheon for all alumni and friends of the college at noon in Gressette Gym.  Hot lunches are $10 each.  Everyone who plans to eat lunch must pre-register by Feb. 27 by calling (229) 391-4900.

Phillips graduated from ABAC in 1983 and completed her BS in Home Economics and Journalism at the University of Georgia (UGA) in 1985.  In 1987, she received her MS in Housing, Home Management and Consumer Economics from UGA.

Phillips currently is a part-time instructor at both UGA and the Georgia Institute of Technology.  She is the owner and founder of Quadrillion, a marketing and image development company in Stockbridge. Phillips received the UGA Creswell Award in 2007 for leadership in motivating and guiding students.
