Interns On Golf Courses Throughout World
TIFTON - The
Environmental Horticulture program at Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College
provides turfgrass and landscape students with internships each semester to a
variety of interesting locations throughout the United States and abroad. The last two summers have been no exception with
students travelling throughout 15 states and
one overseas location.
Each intern must
complete an orientation session on campus and complete all required assignments
as listed on the ABAC website.
“The purpose of the internship training is to gain exposure
to experiential learning activities in their major, network with employers and
fellow employees, document training activities and submit necessary forms for
individual assessment,” Dr. Eddie Seagle, who coordinates the internship
program, said. “The students also defend
their experiential activities through presenting a PowerPoint of their training
on campus to employers, faculty, staff and students at the end of the term as a capstone
assessment.”
Each student is
visited on-site for an upfront and detailed action assessment or an assessment
is conducted by phone if the distance is too great. Many of the courses where students do their
training have ABAC graduates on staff.
This year’s interns worked on such courses as Augusta National Golf Club; Atlanta Country Club; Reynolds
Plantation Golf Courses on Lake Oconee; Sky Valley Golf Club in Dillard; The
Landings Golf Courses in Savannah; River Forest Golf Club in Forsyth; Amelia
Island Golf Clubs in Fernandina, FL; The Honor’s Course in Chattanooga, TN;
Blythefield Golf Club in Belmont, MI; Kinderlou Forest Golf Club in Valdosta; The
