ABAC ON THE SQUARE TO HOLD ROCK-A-THON FOR LOCAL VETERANS

TIFTON – The Student Leadership Society at ABAC on the Square in Moultrie will support Colquitt County veterans during a spring semester community service event on April 30. The Leadership Society will “Rock for Veterans” by holding a rock-a-thon on the Courthouse Square from 9 a.m. – 4 p.m.

The event will be held in memory of Sgt. Steve McCoy, a Moultrie native who died as a result of wounds he received in a roadside bomb attack in southern Baghdad.

McCoy was a 2003 graduate of Colquitt County High School and a member of the Junior ROTC Program. He was serving his second tour in Iraq with Alpha Company, 4th Battalion, 64th Armor Regiment, 3rd Infantry Division based at Ft. Stewart in Hinesville.

McCoy’s widow, Tabitha, is a new student at ABAC on the Square this semester. She and her twin children, son Landen and daughter Ryley, helped honor McCoy at a memorial service in Moultrie.

“As Americans, we are the most blessed people on earth,” ABAC on the Square Director Kay Powell said. “We owe many of the blessings we share to the men and women of the armed services who protect and serve our nation. Because the ABAC on the Square Leadership Society wants to thank our veterans, we are hosting an inaugural ABAC on the Square “Rocks for Veterans” event to raise money to benefit Colquitt County veterans.”

Powell and Alice Slocumb, a co-advisor to the Leadership Society and an adjunct faculty member at ABAC on the Square, said the students will be accepting contributions before and during the event. Interested persons can call ABAC on the Square at (229) 891-7235.
