Consumer Health Information
for
Health and Wellness
This information tends to be slightly different than patient information, which is usually supplied in a clinical setting.
There is a mass of health information available on the web. Sadly, a great deal of it is outdated, misleading or just plain wrong! Using Google is NOT a smart way to find high quality information. We strongly recommend trying these GALILEO databases FIRST!
Find these by choosing the
tab on the main GALILEO page and then choosing Consumer Health from the drop-down menu.
These are our favorites
Health Source – Consumer Edition
AltHealth Watch – Source for alternative medicines and therapies (Acupuncture, herbal remedies, hydrotherapy, etc.)
Clinical Pharmacology – drug information – this resource has pictures of the pills and containers so you can identify stray medicine.
MedlinePlus – this government owned database has a link in GALILEO. It is also available free on the Internet from anywhere because it is produced and maintained by the US Government. Go to medlineplus.gov
Can’t remember the GALILEO password? Need good information fast? You can’t go wrong with Infomine. The cream of the Internet, maintained and evaluated by librarians from around the globe.
Citing your sources – APA style – two examples of two different documents – for more information see your professor or talk to a librarian.
